Central Union Mission Announces Grand Opening of Northern Virginia Location
Bringing Critically Needed Resources to People in Need
Arlington, VA Central Union Mission is proud to announce the grand opening of its new Mission: NOVA Center in Northern Virginia, marking a historic milestone in the organization’s 140-year legacy of serving those in need. Located in south Arlington, the Mission: NOVA Center is set to be a central hub for critical services tailored to the unique needs of the Northern Virginia community.
The new facility will provide a comprehensive range of services, including food, clothing, addiction recovery support, computer training, educational programs, health clinics, job training and placement, legal aid, ESL classes, life skills, and parenting classes. Consistent with Central Union Mission’s core values, Bible study, prayer, and discipleship will be integrated into every service offered, with options available in both English and Spanish.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, in a video message celebrating the Mission’s expansion, highlighted the importance of addressing poverty and homelessness in the Commonwealth. He remarked, “Poverty and homelessness are among the most important issues we face here in the Commonwealth, and we’re so glad to have you as our partner… We look forward to seeing how Central Union Mission’s presence strengthens the spirit of Virginia. Congratulations on your great work and thank you for your service, and let me be the first to say, ‘Welcome to Virginia,’ and may God bless you.”
Joe Mettimano, President and CEO of Central Union Mission, expressed gratitude for the organization’s historic new initiative, stating, “With over 140 years of experience serving the poor and homeless in D.C., we are now extending our reach to Northern Virginia. By leveraging our expertise and forging strategic partnerships, we’re aiming to create a greater collective impact. This is one of the most significant efforts we’ve undertaken since our founding.”
The Mission: NOVA Center is strategically located near Carlyn Springs Road, Columbia Pike, and Bailey’s Crossroads. The facility is designed to address the specific needs of these underserved areas, minimizing duplication of efforts, maximizing partnerships with other providers, and offering a full suite of assistance under one roof. Additionally, the center will serve as a collaborative platform for other ministries to join forces in helping those in need.
Central Union Mission invites the community to an Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, to explore the new Mission: NOVA Center, meet the staff, and learn more about the services and volunteer opportunities available. The first food and clothing distribution at the center will also take place. A brief program will take place at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Greenbrier Baptist Church, with light snacks provided.
