WASHINGTON, D.C.—December 13, 2024—This holiday season, while many gather with loved ones in the warmth of their homes, countless individuals in the DMV face the harsh reality of homelessness. To bring hope and joy to those in need, Central Union Mission will host its annual “Show Some Love” event, a celebration designed to uplift and inspire its shelter guests during this difficult time of year.
On Friday, December 13, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, the Mission’s overnight guests will be treated to an afternoon of relaxation and fellowship, including complimentary haircuts, games, and festive Christmas music. While the men enjoy these moments of care, the Mission’s auditorium will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the evening’s festivities.
At 4:30 PM, the “Show Some Love” celebration will officially begin with an elegant chef-prepared dinner, gift bags containing cologne and pampering kits, music from a DJ, and a joyful Christmas carol singalong. The event is more than just a holiday party; it’s a moment of dignity, hope, and inspiration for men who are working to overcome homelessness.
Honoring a Legacy of Service
This year marks the Mission’s 140th anniversary, underscoring the organization’s long-standing commitment to serving the most vulnerable in the Washington, D.C., area. Adding to the celebration is the Mission’s expansion into Northern Virginia with the launch of Mission: NOVA in Arlington, VA—an exciting milestone that broadens the Mission’s reach and impact.
“This year’s ‘Show Some Love’ event reflects everything Central Union Mission stands for—hope, transformation, and a deep care for our community,” said Joseph Mettimano, President & CEO of Central Union Mission. “Our goal is to provide not just temporary relief but also the encouragement and support our guests need to embrace a brighter future. As we celebrate 140 years of service and our expansion into Northern Virginia, we are reminded of how vital our work is, especially during the holiday season.”
