Washington, DC—December 18, 2023—Over the next two days, Central Union Mission will distribute gifts to hundreds of children in need during their Operation Christmas Miracle event at the Comprehensive Family Resource Center.
Each year, with the support of our community and generous donors, children are able to celebrate the holiday with gifts under the tree while also experiencing the love, hope, and joy brought to us by Jesus Christ.
According to Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano, “Operation Christmas Miracle brings Christmas joy to struggling families in Washington, DC. With the contributions of our caring community, we can help children experience firsthand the kindness that they can model in their own lives. No child should be left out at Christmas.”
Said one Grandmother who asked to remain anonymous, “This time of year is extremely difficult. Having to buy presents on top of paying rent and still keeping their bellies full, it’s a lot…but thanks to Operation Christmas Miracle, I don’t have to worry about them not having presents under the tree. I’m so grateful for this program because each year it feels like a Christmas miracle when I see their faces light up on Christmas morning.”
Giving Christmas gifts to children in need is a Central Union Mission tradition that dates back to 1925 when First Lady Grace Coolidge personally distributed the presents.
News media are invited to attend at any point. RSVP requested. Please contact Lillian Prince, Media Liaison, at 240-432-5937 or lprince@missiondc.org for information.
