Central Union Mission in Need of Toy Donations for Operation Christmas Miracle
Washington, DC—Dec. 22, 2021—On Saturday, Dec. 25, Central Union Mission will host its annual Christmas celebration for men experiencing homelessness this Christmas.
Each Christmas, Central Union Mission opens their hearts and doors to serve homeless men during a time when they need it the most. The winter holidays can be extremely difficult for men who were former heads-of-households and are now separated from their families and living in poverty. This is even more important during the ongoing pandemic as it has exasperated living conditions and family reunification for many people experiencing homelessness.
“Opening our doors and embracing these men for Christmas is what this day is all about,” said Mission President & CEO Joseph Mettimano, “Central Union Mission will always be a place of comfort, hope and peace for our homeless community during the holidays.”
Shelter guests will enjoy a day of food, fellowship, fun and a traditional celebration of the Christmas holiday. Lunch will be served at noon, and dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. They will also receive gifts of clothing, cologne, books and other basic necessities.
“I’m grateful that I can come and eat here at the Mission,” said one gentleman. “Christmas is a lonely day, but I know when I get here, I’ll be greeted with a smile and fed a good meal.”
Central Union Mission invests a lot of resources and support into the community during the holiday season, and not just for men experiencing homelessness, but for families living in poverty as well. Families are welcome to enjoy a meal at the shelter on Christmas day and enjoy the ministry and love we spread all year long.
