Central Union Mission Stands Ready as Winter Storm Approaches: Providing Warm Shelter, Hot Meals, and Hope to Those in Need

Washington, DC—February 11, 2025—With a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning across the District, Maryland, and Virginia—and a Winter Storm Warning issued for portions of Virginia and West Virginia—Central Union Mission is prepared to serve as a warm beacon of hope for those struggling on the streets.

Forecasters predict 4-6 inches of snow, bringing dangerously cold temperatures that put our homeless neighbors at severe risk. Central Union Mission remains open and ready to provide safe shelter, hot meals, and warm clothing to anyone in need.

“For those experiencing homelessness, a winter storm isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s life-threatening,” said Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano. “Our doors are open, our beds are ready, and our team is prepared to offer warmth, rest, and relief to anyone seeking refuge from the storm.”

Guests at Central Union Mission receive:

  • A safe, warm place to sleep
  • Nutritious meals and hot beverages
  • Hot showers and fresh clothing
  • A welcoming environment filled with care and compassion
