Food Donations a Relief for Four Hundred Families

Washington DC—May 7, 2018—Four hundred DC-area families in need identified by Central Union Mission will receive enough food to supplement meals for a week plus daily essentials, thanks to a partnership between Feed the Children, Union Market and Central Union Mission.

The event kicks off at 11:00 a.m. at Union Market, 1309 5th St, NE, Washington, DC 20002.

Each family will receive:

  • a 25-pound box of food
  • a 15-pound box of essentials
  • a 5-pound box of AVON products,
  • Disney books for the children

According to Central Union Mission Executive Director David Tredwell, “Our community eagerly awaits this event because it takes off some of the pressure of providing healthy food for our un- and underemployed parents. Feed the Children helps people who are struggling to make ends meet so they can save their money to pay other bills.”

“We recognize hunger can’t be fought alone, but by working together, we can provide food and essentials to millions of children and families who live in poverty,” said Travis Arnold, President and CEO of Feed the Children. “The work Feed the Children does would be impossible without the support of our corporate partners.”

This is the ninth annual event Feed the Children has hosted in the DC community, where nearly 20 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. Similar events will be hosted in other major US cities during the rest of the year.
