| Washington, DC—January 14, 2019—Central Union Mission invites furloughed federal employees in need of food to visit our Family Ministry Center (3194-B Bladensburg Rd., NE, Washington, DC), Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Groceries will be available while supplies last through our Emergency Referral Program. People seeking assistance must bring a government-issued I.D. and agency work badge/ID. According to Mission President Joseph Mettimano, “People can fall on hard times for a variety of reasons, including a government shutdown. Whatever the reason, the Mission is committed to helping our neighbors in need.”
While many furloughed employees likely will not need this kind of assistance, some families connected to the federal workforce may live paycheck-to-paycheck, so any disruption of income can create hardship. There are approximately 364,000 federal employees in the DC area.
