With Projections of the Most Expensive Thanksgiving in History, Central Union Mission Will Serve a Community in Need
|
WHAT: |
Central Union Mission will serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast on Thursday November 25, to homeless neighbors in need and the working poor in the community. This year’s holiday is projected to be the most expensive in history, with a 14 percent price increase since last year. Many Americans are still feeling the impact of the pandemic and in October 2021, nine percent of all adults in the United States reported that their household didn’t have enough food to eat for the entire month. The average working family can barely afford food on a day-to-day basis, so consider the additional burden this holiday places on them.
The Mission will open its doors to the community and serve a full meal to those who otherwise would not be able to afford a meal on Thanksgiving. In addition to the donors and sponsors who contributed to the day’s event, over 40 volunteers will be on-site to decorate the facility, and to also host and serve shelter residents and guests from the community. |
WHEN: |
Thursday, November 25, 2021 10:45 am – Join us live as our volunteers set up for Thanksgiving Day 12:15 pm – Join Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano for the Thanksgiving meal service |

WHO: |
Central Union Mission residents and community members |
WHY: |
According to Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano, “I’m grateful that Central Union Mission continues to show up for the community when they need us the most. There are so many who would not be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic which the most vulnerable still feel, and the substantial rise in cost for this holiday. I’m honored to open our doors and feed the hungry souls who had nowhere else to turn today.” |
