WHAT: You are invited to join Central Union Mission food recipient families and staff at the Family Ministry Center as the Mission distributes donated turkeys and other foods for family Thanksgiving meals, as well as PPE kits to help keep vulnerable families safe during their small Thanksgiving gatherings. The distribution is socially distanced and takes place outside.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 17, and Wednesday, November 18, at from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, or while supplies last. Please arrive by 1:00 pm to interview and photograph families in line.
WHERE: Family Ministry Center, 3194 Bladensburg Rd., NE, Washington, DC 20018. The entrance is at the back of the building; the driveway is next to Popeye’s.
WHO: Seniors on fixed incomes and families affected by unemployment, housing insecurity and the COID-19 pandemic. The Family Ministry Center has seen a 50 percent increase in the number of recipient families since the pandemic began in March.
WHY: According to Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano, “Thanksgiving is really the most important holiday of the year for Central Union Mission. Hospitality is what we do best, and there’s a reason for that: We believe ‘hope begins with a meal.’ We support these families and seniors throughout the year so that they can use their limited income for rent or other necessities. However, at Thanksgiving it’s our privilege to provide a turkey dinner so families can enjoy a holiday together without the stress of extra expenses.” We are grateful for all the generous gifts and donations of food that make this event possible.
