Keenan’s Story

You gave Keenan the best gift he could ask for

“Thank you. I don’t know where I’d be without your support.”

“My life spiraled out of control as a result of a whole bunch of bad decisions. It felt almost impossible to climb out because I was so far down.”

Keenan was good at bouncing back from the consequences of his choices. But this time, he couldn’t. “I felt lost for the first time,” he says. “I was exhausted. I had no idea which way to turn.”

Without any place to call home, Keenan stayed in a motel for two weeks. It didn’t take long for him to realize his way of life wasn’t sustainable. Keenan made a humbling decision that would change his life—walking through Central Union Mission’s doors.

“I walked through the door with just a sliver of hope,” he says. “Finally having a roof over my head made me think, Maybe I can get help here.”

Just that meager amount of hope was enough to make Keenan stick around long enough to realize the Mission is a place of second chances.

“It takes a toll on you when you’re always worrying about where you’re going to sleep,” says Keenan. “If you don’t have a stable place to go, it’s almost impossible to rebuild your life.”

Because of you, Keenan found everything he needed to achieve lasting stability—work therapy, spiritual discipleship, job resume training. He’s restoring his self-sufficiency and building a life on a better foundation than he ever had before—Jesus Christ.

“I think I was destined to come here all along,” Keenan says. “I’ve had to take a look at myself and reflect on some of the things I’ve done. Through it all, I’ve seen God’s miracles.”

To you and other compassionate friends of the Mission, Keenan has just two words: “Thank you.”
