Mario Cruz

Mario Cruz, 54, found himself homeless in October 2013 when his landlord was evicted for mortgage default. He planned to start our Work Program since he had a job, but that opportunity dried up, so he was unemployed, as well. Cruz is a licensed cook and has his certified food handler’s license. With experience cooking for Marriott International, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Georgetown University and other organizations, the Mission was able to benefit from his talents. He is serving up meals to everyone’s delight and is working towards a permanent position on the Mission’s kitchen staff.
